I checked out Amethyst yesterday. it's been a couple years since the last post in here so I figured I'd see what's happened, and it appears to be quite a lot. from what I can tell on my short tour, regular users, not just crypto peeps, are taking to the platform. pictures, videos, memes, replies. seems to be expanding.

Could someone briefly explain what and why? I found the web site disapointingly unclear about how this works and why we need it (possibly from avoiding getting technical?). Briefely reading through it made me feel like a problem looking for another problem, with more layers between user and originator, both at the network level and at the data level (not a fan of JSON or complexity). If you have a clear idea of how it works or why we need it, I would love to hear it.

I've been working on caracal, a nostr client with a Gemini interface, really basic for now but it's usable. It can do NIP-96 file uploads via Titan. I've used a few graphical nostr clients but i wanted something lightweight that runs in the background and controllable from a gemini browser, and nostr notes are easy to render as gemtext so ... caracal maps your Gemini identity to your Nostr identity.
