Garden fox 🦊

There's often a fox at the bottom of my garden, having a snooze. Some of the larger birds don't like it. I've seen magpies and crows try to bait the fox into chasing them. The birds do this in pairs, so maybe they have young in nests that would make a nice snack for a fox.

The birds stand on the lawn, not too close, pretending to look for food. You can tell they're shamming because they make a lot of noise. They're trying to get the fox's attention. Fox ignores them, curled up, not even looking.

They get as close as they dare, and try to look extra edible by sitting down or stretching out one wing.

"Oh no, I'm injured, how can I escape?"

Fox ignores them, curled up, not even looking.

The magpies did this for a bit, then gave up. The crows were more persistent. To get as close as they could, they hopped sideways so they were still facing away from the trees and bushes that might block their flight. But eventually even they realised that the fox wasn't going to make a lunge, and they left.

Although the fox ignores them, curled up, not even looking, I don't think it's asleep. Fox is shamming too.

"Look, I'm asleep. You can come as close as you like."

The birds don't fall for that.
