when we are at the bottom, its easy for us to think that we would never do the same as those who are in power. How many of us could actually achieve that? I was thinking maybe that's just not possible. Even if you want to do good, once you are out of the water how could you not become out of touch? Are you confident that you can understand the struggle in a life that you do not live?

@hrdeptgiger I didn't mean to imply consensus, more like views that were roundly unpopular and aren't as much now. I think the tide is turning on social media a bit now, for example. I have been vigorously opposed to that for now over two decades and bore something close to the peak of the social cost one could suffer for doing so.

Btw hilarious name, not sure if I've complimented you on that yet or just thought it. Β· 5 days ago

I thought the right side of history was relative to who won the war/argument? Β· 6 days ago

What has the wider population caught up on? I don’t see a lot of new consensus on anything Β· 6 days ago

I am often amused when people act as if they would be on "the right side of history" with moral issues of the past like slavery or something, because many of these people strike me as very conformist to the zeitgeist.

I believe I can because I have a strong suite of skills, including theory of mind, and my reasoning ability has led me to unpopular conclusions I've had to wait many years for the wider population to catch up on.

That said, I think that just makes me a bit better at it than most. That doesn't mean it's easy. Your point is quite true and it is a very subtly difficult thing to do, to exchange your persepctive with others. Β· 6 days ago

Are you saying it's easier to hoard morals if you've got nothing else to hoard? Β· 1 week ago
