Is anyone here into using Plain Text Accounting (PTA)? I feel like it is very philosophically aligned with geminispace... I have been getting into it, using hledger as my primary tool.

@half_elf_monk I am not sure about CLI/TUI spreadsheet programs, but I wouldn't be surprised if they exist... also, how do the folks you know use spreadsheets for accounting? seems like double-entry would be hard... · 2 days ago

gonna start a petition for a movement to return to the ancient days of IBM midrange machines and RPG-II for extreme paper accounting now thanks · 4 days ago

I am not, but I know a LOT of people who just use a spreadsheet program. It's relatively simple. · 4 days ago

@jahano It's great that the documentation is so comprehensive! I'll start checking it out when I get home tonight. Thanks! · 4 days ago

@knshow I went for hledger over ledger because it gets more frequent updates and it has extremely comprehensive documentation (at least in English) · 5 days ago

@johano I feel that lol. As a newbie who started messing with Linux right around the end of Windows 10, the ability to tinker with everything makes me want to go simpler and simpler. In other words... I think I'm gonna fall hard for hledger. · 5 days ago

@knshow it appeals to my urge to tinker :) at first getting everything set up took a few hours, but now tracking daily stuff takes just a few minutes... I find I usually have around 10 or fewer transactions and therefore journal entries on an average day. · 5 days ago

I actually learned about PTA for the first time through your post! Managing everything in plain text sounds amazing.
I’ve never been able to stick with standard apps because filling out all those specific categories and amounts always felt like such a hassle. I think I might give this a try! · 5 days ago
