I just learned that สวัสดี (sà-wàt-dii • hello) in Thai comes from Sanskrit स्वस्ति (svasti • prosperity, success). From "svasti" comes "swastika", which has been a symbol of divinity & spirituality in Hinduism, Buddhism, long before the far right West appropriated it.

It was always present in the West. It's about as close as you can get for a symbol that represents all indo-european peoples (and in fact in East Asia it's mostly present through Buddhism, which is ultimately an indo-european spirituality) · 2 years ago

However, the symbol I found sculpted into sarcophagus in Milan for example is mirrored compared to the nazi one, with arms going anticlockwise and not clockwise. The early 20th century thrived on esoteric curiosities especially in some high circles. · 2 years ago
