One of the comments I’ve read several times regarding the content of the Gemini Protocol is that it tends to focus quite a bit on technology. With that in mind, and since this is an open-ended question, do you think the content within the Gemini Protocol leans more toward IT topics, or do you just need to look a little deeper to find countless other topics?

new update: auragem down again :l

on what @caleb said: surely gemini follows a niche tied to tech principles. I doubt that's the only habit users post on who're part of gemini along with the smallnet, aside from the "nature of the protocol", however found.

I've met many musicians, writers, artists here. Some joined my tilde. As a musician who's played in music scenes, w/ people that take part - I find those who insist it's hard to find anything else often first thing put no effort finding what they claim to crave, yet expect easy answers without trying. If we want more art, we must do more to share, look around, and encourage artists to share more. · 1 week ago

hello hello, wanted to drop an update since my last comment to do with auragem and how it used to offer cool mimetype indexing - it's back! all those cool features are still there too, although some segments might be glitching out. Here's a link to the audio indexing, for example.

Lo que ocurre es que al tener un nicho tan tecnológico principalmente (los geminautas) creo que es normal que ese sea un tema habitual · 4 weeks ago

I don't think there's anything in Gemini/Gemtext that leans towards technical topics. Rather, it leans towards publishing things that can be expressed using plain prose. If anything, I would say that Gemini _disfavours_ technical subjects, because there are many things that area easier to present in Gemtext.

That fact that most discussion is, in fact, technical, is a reflection of that fact that one thing -- probably the only thing -- Gemini users have in common, is an interest in Gemini. People tend to write what others will read. · 4 weeks ago

@half_elf_monk I thinbk that you and @userfxnet nailed it. I think the gavitation towards tech is natural, but that, because it is a tech (online) platform, that tech is going to naturally dominate. But I think there hidden gems out there covering every kind of topic (and some maybe we DONT want to know about) floating around in Gemspace. I think anything easily discoverable will for certain have more of a tech flavor than anything else. · 4 weeks ago

@userfxnet makes me wonder if the idea "there's only tech on gemini protocol" occurs primarily on 'social' capsules like station/BBS. Are there even ways of measuring content archetypes? · 4 weeks ago

I don't think peeps on geminispace take advantage enough of the content type filtering available on kennedy, and miss out on all the cool audios, videos, and published or supplemented document filetype literature that's available across gemini. clseibold's space with auragem was the best for that, but I think their experience with members across different gemini platforms scared them off and made all of their cool innovations unavailable. · 4 weeks ago

I have seen a large range of topics so far but usually through a second hand experienced perspective (gemlogs). The only things I see setup on Gemini are official resources/information is mostly tech stuff. Information on hobbies/skills/cooking/traveling are almost always in context to a gemlog. And then something that is also found in gemlogs but I consider it's own genre is mental health dialog/break downs/depression texts. · 4 weeks ago
